History

The name singida is derived from the word Masingida, which refers to the wooden ornaments worn in the ears and made by the Nyaturu people who live in the area. Geographically Singida is in the centre of Tanzania mainland.

Singida is nicknamed the central corridor of Tanzania because it is located in the centre of the country. Singida town is the headquarters of Singida Region. The other centrally located regions that share borders with Singida are Dodoma and Tabora. Iringa, and Mbeya regions border Singida in the South, and to the north are the regions of Shinyanga, Arusha and Manyara.

Getting to Singida:

Singida Town is connected by good roads to Dodoma, Arusha, Kigoma and Mwanza. It is accessible from Arusha through Babati and katesh in Manyara region, From Dar es salaam, Morogoro,through Dodoma and from Shinyanga and Mwanza through Nzega in Tabora region.

The painted Rocks

Visit the Rock painting that are dotted around Singida , The rock paintings are communiqués from the past. The rock paintings were done by people just like us, who chose as their canvases the rugged surfaces that were sculpted by the elements through countless millennia. The reddish color has endured the passage of time for us to see.

Lake Singida

Lake Singida is one of three saline lakes just west of town. With green waters and plenty of rocky spots along the shore it’s quite beautiful, even when it’s completely dried up, which happens during some dry seasons. The lake attracts plenty of water birds, including pelicans and sometimes flamingos.

Lake Kindai

Lake Kindai is next to Lake Singidani and is located in Singida, Tanzania. Lake Kindai has a length of 9.65 kilometres.

Natural Hot water Springs

where locals are said to believe that bathing from the hot water from the springs are a cure for skin disease. You will find a few locals observing the ritual.

Ethnographic Museum

In Singida town don’t miss the Ethnographic museum. It is very small but worth a while to learn about The Hadzabe, Nyiramba, Taturu, Kirobu, Nyisanzu, Barabaig, Nyaturu, and Gogo ethic groups.

Game reserves

Visit several game reserves in the north and to South Rungwa, Kizigo and Muhesi Game reserves.
